A whole new world!
Back to office, back to business .. after a long time indeed!
This is my first blog since I joined my "group", Dept of High Energy Physics .. It's been two weeks that I was assigned a group but it took me quite a while to get started with the blog. Why?
I got my office (a table+drawers and a PC), a room shared by three of us. It was just today morning that net was connected to our computers, before that we have been using our old students' room .. it's a strange feeling indeed. After spending a whole year in the room it takes a day to have lost it .. with the new occupants coming in and ourselves getting separate offices you just can not keep on using the same old room as your own. You suddenly start getting a feeling that here you are not expected to be .. All on a sudden a feeling of 'seniority' creeps in in your veins, perhaps!
So now I have an office and an extension number .. I am sounding childish, indeed .. I know .. but let me accept it .. I am delighted, excited, there is a feeling of joy de vivre... one starts living in his own style .. the life of a "Research scholar", not that of a 'PhD "student"'..
Am I talking rubbish ? perhaps! I am excited for more than a reason infact .. My guide is coming from Switzerland tomorrow .. so I am going to meet him for the first time in this new career of mine , the person I always wanted to work with .. and was so worried about to lose him for the last 4/5 months till I got the confirmation.
Let me talk about my new machine, I mean the one I have in the office .. it has a hard disk of 120 GB, a phenomenal size for me to imagine! It has got a wonderful flat screen which will eventually encourage me to watch lots of movies in the future, I am sure! A keyboard, so soft to use that you start caring about it! A pair of wonderful speakers with which I have been listening to all possible Indian classical instrumentals since the morning ..
The day it was installed, that was Friday of the last week, I watched Kanchanjangha, a favourite Ray-movie of mine .. though I had the CD of it the last time I played it was in Cambridge, sometime in April, 2003 .. when I watched with two other people (who are very close to me) .. in our computer room at St Ed's, at night from 2-4, I guess .. followed by a tea-session in D8! It was almost time for the sun rise when my friend and me went to sleep together! Unforgettable memories .. heh!
Each time I decide not to think about it.. I can not help it .. you know .. it just comes! .. I should stop here now, I feel.
